The timing for this news article could not have been better. See, right now a group of people are trying to separate Church and State by proposing a couple of modifications to the Costa Rican constitution. I have not been following closely what they are, but whatever wants to get the greedy Catholic Church from money that is not theirs has my full approval.

No wonder the Chruch is not very happy of these efforts to get them off the government – get this: during 2008, the Church received 48 MILLION COLONES (about $83K) to (good god) repair catholic temples. Yes, that is right, the money I pay for taxes goes to repairing buildings where nuts go to worship their imaginary friends. But wait, it gets worse.

From 2008 to 2009, this budget was increased to be 240,000 colones (about $414K). How in the world can they justify such expenditures. Who the FUCK is the Church to proclaim that money? There are kids going to schools here without walls, wouldn’t that money be spent helping kids get their education? Or how about building some houses for those affected by the Earthquake this year that left hundreds homeless? Or how about just helping the poor? Can someone please explain to me why are we throwing this money away given economic crisis the world is suffering? For all I know, we are not immune to the economic turmoil right now, but apparently the church thinks otherwise. Prayers are not going to bring that money back when the time comes.

Sorry to disappoint. They will spend some of that money on AUDIO equipment. Yes, that is right, $130K will be spent on some kind of audio equipment (my guess is that they will buy iPods to lure young kids and have their way with them :S).

Screw article 75 and all that it stands for, separation of church and state NOW.
