Pan’s Labyrinth : One of the best movies I have ever seen
February 25th, 2007
You know how to tell a crappy movie from a good one? The good one will not leave your mind and will have you thinking about it after you watch it. I am not talking about an hour pondering on the film, but rather on days after you have watched the film. This is the effect that movies such as se7en, Fight Club, and the Matrix have had in my life. No matter how many times you watch it, you always discover something new.
When Pan’s Labyrinth ended today, my jaw was wide open. This guy, Guillermo del Toro, had pulled an instant classic and set the standards for future fairy tale movies. Pan’s Labyrinth is a fusion of great elements that when put together as Del Toro did, creates a unforgettable fairy tale for adults. Yes adults, this movie is not for children!! (there were like 20 ten-year olds on the movie theater, I bet they will not sleep for a week). The effects are out of this world, the characters are intriguing and extremely well developed, everyone in the film did a kick ass job acting, especially the kid – Ivana Baquero.
I am not going to dive into specifics about the movie, it would ruin it for many, but do yourself a favor and watch the movie NOW. This is not a rental, you need the surround sound and the eeriness that can only be brought by a dark cinema. Usually I refrain from recommending something because it raises expectations too much and people expect a lot more. With this movie, the highest of expectations should be met, it is an instant classic that should remain in your memory for a long time – definitely buying the DVD when it comes out.
