Windows Vista on MacBook (black)
July 28th, 2006
So I am one of the gazillion people who have installed Vista on a MacBook. Why? Why not? I need to use Win32 binaries at work and quite frankly I am a bit tired of using Windows XP. It works and all, but it’s about time to change no?
So the instructions I used for installing Vista were these ones:

They worked flawlessly, I am now running Vista. Here are my problems and the solution for them:
Right Mouse Click
Problem:
Windows was born to be used with right-mouse click, which is the way it should be. So far I am having problems right mouse clicking.
Temporal Solution: Selecting an item and pressing shift + F10 brings up a contextual menu which offers basic functions.
Comments: Anyhow, I want to be able to invoke the contextual menu by placing two fingers in the trackpad and clicking.
Driver Hell
Problem: Many devices are not recognized by the default Vista installation, I have no network adapters therefore I cannot update them online.
Temporal Solution: Installed the Windows XP drivers from the BootCamp ISO….no worky
Comments: Dunno if this will blow up in my face…it is currently running and I am just waiting for it to blue screen on me
Real Solution: Found this link which shows you how to carry out this procedure (Spanish)…seems complicated but not too bad.
So far I have ethernet, wireless, and Intel Graphics drivers working with the method described above…I don’t care about the CD eject key so I did not mess around with registry at all.
Sadly, I am not impressed at all with Vista
Fo starters, Acrobat Professional won’t install at all, it just hangs. I was unable to install iTunes as well. The controls and settings for this OS might take a bit getting used to. I am rushing through every place setting everything to Classic View as I am lost looking for settings – it is starting to become a bit frustrating (think OS X 10.0). Explorer has already crashed on me and I lost all settings I had already set (taskbar properties). Performance-wise, it overall runs sluggish, and this is a clean install of Vista…things can only get worse from now on :S This is not a underpowered machine folks, it has 1.5 GB of Ram Intel Core Duo and OS X runs very smoothly on it.
Microsoft still has a long way to go…I am starting ti regret installing Vista to work as my main Windows machine…I might go back to XP after all, stay tuned.
UPDATE: Vista is in no way an OS that can be used as of now for regular work stuff. Deleted partition and am installing XP as of now….*sigh*
