Hacking the iPhone

One hour after I had purchased my iPhone, I was following the instructions to hack it. So what exactly does hacking allow you to do?
-Use the iPhone without signing a 2-year contract with ATT (this is what is referred to as jailbreaking)
-Use any SIM card on your phone regardless on where in the world you are
The instructions I followed are from the modmyiphone web site, which were very easy to follow. It takes around 45 minutes to crack it open. Ask away if you have any questions regarding the procedure!
